The united states fought two fronts during world war two they fought against the Japanese (Pacific) in japan and against the Germans (Atlantic) in Europe.
The united states wanted to defeat japan first before they went head on for Germany. There for they wanted to take japan out before Germany because japan was a weaker country and we could drop bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki and end the fight with japan quickly.

The Battle of the Atlantic was the longest battle in world war two. The Germans used U-Boats during world war two. The U-Boats the Germans had were effective on all the things that we had and tried detecting them and sending merchant boats out in numbers to locate them which did not work the Germans sunk forty one merchant ships and destroyed two carriers killing six hundred and thirty nine men including twenty eight American lives. The allies had quickly caught on and started using sonar which is a underwater detector and helped destroy and find U-Boats that were near.

Active Defense in Pacific
The Battle of the Coral Sea was a mediocre battle. There were about the same amount of casualties on each side other than the allies suffering from losing the U.S.S. Lexington to the Japanese. It lasted only four days May 4th to May 8th. This was a turning point in the war because it stopped Japans Movement. It was the battle that "Saved Australia".
Battle Of Midway
The battle of midway was another turning point in war giving the Allies a advantage upon japan by destroying for carriers and only getting one of our carriers destroyed and taking over midway and now being on the offense. The Japanese did not know we were already their so we demolished them and had success.
Battle of Guadalcanal
The battle of the Guadalcanal was not simple like the others and was fought through separate battles. Some battles lasted more than six months. The United States wanted to take over Solomon Islands. Which the Japanese held control of. The Untied States attacked and ended up taking the Solomon islands. We had taken Guadalcanal.
